Peter – began
riding at the age of nine and quickly joined the
competitive scene through Pony Club. Peter was encouraged
by visiting local and overseas competitors to seek
as much instruction as was possible to allow his
horsemanship and riding skills to reach their full
potential. Personal success was achieved from Grade
1 Pony Club through to representing his state in
the EFA Young Rider Three Day Event. Whilst competing
in the Adelaide Showjumping Championships, Peter
spent two weeks working with dual Gold medal winner
Gillian Rolton.
Throughout the years, Peter has worked
for Mark Kavanagh and Greg Eurell, breaking in horses
for them, after which he went on to form his own
business, H&H Horse Breaking which grew in success,
finally reaching numbers of one hundred. When the
business dissolved, Peter continued to do contract
breaking for two years prior to joining the team
at Cranbourne Equine Tuition Services.
Peter shows an individual style in
his breaking methods and likes to work one on one
with the horse without the restrictions of tying
them under or leaving them alone to learn about the
girth and mouthing. The mouthing process is done
on the lunge, working closely with the horse and
allowing it to gain its confidence. Peter likes to
use a softer and more understanding approach, which
eliminates a lot of undue stress to the horse throughout
its learning process. Because of this, the horses
maintain a healthy weight and build good muscle tone
as they are not exposed to high levels of pressure. |
